Ugh. This isn’t music. It’s like the same thing over and over again. And then all this.. what is that sound! This is all vaguely unsettling. But. Uhh hurting my ears. That incessant… banging! It’s annoying. Can you turn it off? I can’t even tell what that guy is saying, it’s so distorted and cut up. Is it important? Is this what you call dubstep? Ok that’s a bit funky. But there’s no way I can last more than 1 minute of any song. You should just get the itunes samples and mix those together. It would be over sooner. Dzh! Dzsh! Dzsh! How are you even supposed to dance to this? I feel like I’m on drugs. Hrm. That’s a little better. Oh no. Oh no. Could you at least turn it down? That sounds a lot like Blade Runner but worse. What! Trance music? Huh. Well, at least the last 3.5 songs are almost tolerable. Please just do some straight up indie rock next time.

It’s time to rock. A lot of the time on deh sleepstreeeaaammm you’re hearing all this whispy melodic minimal ambient stuff, or funky grooves, or whatever. This time it’s all about the dirty guitars, pounding drums and err… machismo? (though not much screaming, not really my bag). After some of the last 5 years rockingest offerings, I have a sex change (ah modern technology) and travel back to the 90s and get to know some of the mainstays of the riot grrrl movement. I’ll explore my feminine side even deeper by travelling back to the end of the 70s for some original woman-at-the-helm proto-punk, punk and post-punk etc. Remember like 3 or 4 episodes when I said I should play more non-current music? We’ve been mostly steering away from the synthesizers for a while, so this time I’m going to unbridle a whole mess of smooth/tasty/euro/banging/sexy beats on you fools. The music starts off like a celebration of the edge between cool and hot on a sultry summer night perfect for top down cruising. Then it explores the territory and comes back with some pounding classics, noodly newness and generally steady beatings. I apologize I am definitely getting behind on the show. So so many awesome tracks lounging around in the queue waiting to be heard. I will try to get these gems out to you at a better rate. The slipstream is supposed to be new and great and it’s struggling with the former (but at least the great bit is what’ll count in the long run and it’s looking tip top in that respect).

Thought we missed it, but Spring is in the air. Chartreuse is gradually taking over the palette outside my window. So today the sounds are light (as in lumens) and wispy and/or buoyant. Some great glittering oldies, a few delicate shimmery numbers in the vein of folk, and then some positive, gleeful hip hop (not two words normally associated with the genre, huh). So do please grab a hammock, a pencil and a book of blank pages, and an earful of blooming… Radio Slipstream style.

It has really gotten so far into the next year that it’s about time I either forgot about bothering to mention my favourite albums of last year, or just got it out of the way. I really enjoyed the countdown episode I did last year, but honestly, making it was kind of a pain in the ass because of the work involved. Especially because in lists like this things are always changing all over the place. I know some commentary on these albums would be nice, but I just don’t have the time to bother getting into that and I’d just second guess my selections again, and I want to be done living in last year.
