Category Archives: MIXES

These are various mix CDs that I’ve put together over the years. Guaranteed to please!

The radio show allows me to funnel the very best songs from a vast and ever-growing music collection (currently over 50k tracks). My mixes, usually in the form of an almost 80 minute mix CD, add another layer to the quality assurance since they funnel the only the very best songs from the already wowsome playlists of the show. So you can really see what you’re getting yourself into here… my absolute favourite songs, ordered and mixed with passion and precision.

Some of the CDs have themes (genres, moods, subjects–as noted) and some of them are just a collection of the songs that are doing the most for me at whatever moments I find myself working on ‘em and fit together best. They are available to download in high quality mp3 as single tracks (usually just shy of 80 min). There is also a podcast feed of Mix CDs exclusively.

Whenever I Might Find Her

This may or may not have been made with someone in mind. Several months on down the road, that person is much less in mind, I have no particular regrets, and a really kickass mix cd came of it.

ROBOTRONICALIFIZATION

A full CD’s length of songs about robots. People seem to really like this one.

The TiTiLLATiNG TONES of iPSWiTCH

Tending towards a bit more of an eclectic angle than some of my efforts.

Burning Satellites

This was in general going to be an autumnal compilation of crispy air songs to herald a young boy moving into a new home and setting up a new life, the hope, the thrills, the fright, and the required inherent nostalgia. That doesn’t really come across here, because it changed around quite a lot. But [...]

Slippy Ducks

This lovely plot of musical perfection began as an attempt to put all the tracks at the top of Winamp’s ‘Most Played’ list (except those already committed to mixes) in one happy little place. I would say this is probably my most diverse mix so far. There are some strange and wholly wonderful sounds contained within.

Crisp Multi-Grain Oat Clusters with a Touch of Honey

In the two weeks before this CD was made I discovered a lot of really amazing new music, mostly of the rock sort of variety. Those make up about half of the tracks here (including all the ones beginning in ‘C’), the others are some songs that have been really important to my listening pleasure in the last several months. The loose idea that started this mix was “Rock in the 2000s” to show all the ‘rock is dead’ people. Of course it stretched beyond that in order to not ignore some songs.

HipHop.. for people who think they don’t like hip hop

Lots of people don’t much like hiphop. My theory is that they just think they don’t and they haven’t heard the really good stuff. The idea behind this CD is basically that. A wide selection of honest to God downright awesome hiphop from most of my favourite hip hop purveyors. So if you like the beats and rhymes already, you’ll hopefully like this, and if you don’t then you can learn something!

IndieOndieUndies

This here had its inception because the hiphop mix I was working on was to be a Secret Santa gift for someone whose musical tastes I didn’t know in and out. Not knowing whether he liked hip hop, I figured it would be a good idea to provide an additional CD that would cover the other spectrum of music.. the more guitar and voice side of things, with some variance of course.

Songs/MacEwen

This was my first all out grand production of a mix CD with cover and everything, hours and hours went into it, as is often the case when doing things where computers like to cause errors. It breaks some rules (ie only one song per artist, which is a rule I ignored until basically 2005). I made this mix for Melissa (and perhaps a little for myself as well) when I and she left the proximity of each other and trundled off to McMaster and Queens respectively (that’s where the lame name that i’ve given it comes from).
