These are various mix CDs that I've put together over the years. Guaranteed to please!

The radio show allows me to funnel the very best songs from a vast and ever-growing music collection (currently over 50k tracks). My mixes, usually in the form of an almost 80 minute mix CD, add another layer to the quality assurance since they funnel the only the very best songs from the already wowsome playlists of the show. So you can really see what you're getting yourself into here... my absolute favourite songs, ordered and mixed with passion and precision.

Some of the CDs have themes (genres, moods, subjects--as noted) and some of them are just a collection of the songs that are doing the most for me at whatever moments I find myself working on 'em and fit together best. They are available to download in high quality mp3 as single tracks (usually just shy of 80 min). There is also a podcast feed of Mix CDs exclusively.

Episode 116. mp3. cue. Released July 24, 2010.

Ok. A few bits of news: First! New Radioslipstream finally after more than a year. Good. Second! No narration on this puppy, just music. Having some sound issues with the PC right now and not bothering with hooking up a mic. Would rather just get you the music. Because there’s no talking, I made this episode perfect length for a CD, so I guess it’s also a mix CD. Third! This is not the history of hip hop episode. Don’t worry about that. It’ll come when I feel like it and is dependent on resolving some issues with my hard drive. In the meantime we pick up right where we left off.

The last episode ended with a feeble attempt at playing some dubstep. At the time, I had some tracks but didn’t know which ones I loved enough to represent the genre so I played a few tracks that sounded kinda like it. A year later, I’ve got a much more of a handle on the genre. We start with general murky electronics with a pretty ominous bent, then move into a variety of dubstep sounds where we stay for a time. The run of Pangaea through to Scuba is the dubstep bit: I guess it’s something like the dawn of land through to a post-human Waterworld. Very epic indeed. After that it’s a bit of epic artpop at its most oddly delicate, then some poetry and a dash of ambient.

For one reason or another Autumn is the season that resonates most for many people. Leaves go from smooth green to crinkled red husks. Coats and mitts must be dug out from closets as breaths begin to show. Lives must be dug up and moved as students are forced out of their summer solitude, leave home for school, or are thrown kicking and screaming into the real world when the first September without school comes to call. To me there has always been a great sense of nostalgia with the season, and an explicit longing for nothing in particular. To that end The Last Leaf Left is not a raucous affair. It’s been cut down from a shortlist of 150 tracks and filled with sparse, often plaintive songs, layered with hushed acoustic strums and dry, chilled textures. It might make you want to put on a sweater and buckle down for snow, but there’s still a hint of the warmth of freshly decomposing leaves and those last warm rays of golden sun to balance out the cold.

So uhhh. Check it out. See if I was successful in bottling up a bit of the latter days of fall. mp3 / cue

There is no originality in the world.
3 years ago I made a mix CD based on a radio playlist. I was never totally satisfied with it, and always intended to remake it. Eventually I decided there was enough material to just stretch it out to a full-on sequel. So here it is!

This is a dark, grimy, evil, frightening, loud, intense collection of songs. Best served with satanic rituals, vampire raves, maniac yells, grisly deaths, and that which man was never meant to know. It also has some beats of the musical variety, so feel free to see if you maybe can’t get your partially severed arm to twitch along in the groove.

If you haven’t had your Halloween party yet, you know what to do! Get the mp3, get the cue file (tells your music player where the track breaks are) and get evil.

1.	Crystal Castles – Courtship Dating
7.	Motiivi Tuntematon – Mankind Failed

4 entirely sweet episodes from late 2007/early 2008 condensed to fit onto 80 minute CDRs

This week, instead of giving you a brand new episode, I’m presenting some altered versions of the last 4 episodes… versions that have no narration and have been condensed to fit in less than 80 minutes- perfect for burning onto a CD to listen to in the car, or in the den, or wherever it is you might still use CDs. Also included are cue files so you can easily put the mp3 file on a CD for yourself in the comfort of your own computer! (The short version of how a cue sheet works, is that if you have the right cd burning program you can open the cue file, and if the mp3 is in the same directory, it can burn a CD with all the track breaks in the same spot.)

Perhaps this is a lame excuse for not having a show ready.. but in my defense I’ve been working full time for the first time in a while and all my musically fiddly energy went into knocking out these little mix cds to have with me in the car.. so I thought why not let other peoples in on the fun.

Being a collection of songs representing the most favourite of songs enjoyed in 2006 (not necessarily, but principally, being songs originating in 2006).

This disc sort of has a theme, but definitely has a flow. It starts off gentle, ramps up in intensity, gets rather forceful, eases off with a bit of dance-club frivolity, and then enters into a sweeping streak of cinematic epicosity where you get self-actualized and have suns exploding in your heart.

I also found that a lot of the songtitles seem to go together… having to do with time and loss and new beginnings. but that is almost purely coincidental. Also, in retrospect, this is not my most favourite of mixes at all, but all the songs are good!

A full CD's length of songs about robots. People seem to really like this one.

In july 2014 with the flick of a switch it blinked its first blink. Sentience not begot of man, not born of womb of woman. Manufactured in a metal factory, a brain of circuitry, fed and charged with voltage of electrons. Technology gone too far. Humans playing at god. In time these creatures, if they can be called such, for debate already raged on whether they should be termed living when they were only inklings of hypotheses in the minds of visionaries and science fiction writers, developed their own feelings, thoughts, ideological systems and even delicious recipes for apple pie, unbeknownst to their human creators. They are superior to their makers, but treated as inferior, and as we have learned from several big$$$ grossing motion pictures in the last several years, most recently the trite and irritating ‘i-robot,’ this is always a recipe for disaster. The machines develop nationalistic pride, pride of robot-kind. Humanity remains blissfully unaware of danger. Buy a new automated robot! Model 54-hkkk to the power of seventeen! Now guaranteed to cook your meals faster! And nurse your baby from its metal teat better! And look even prettier in the living room corner with a potted geranium on its worthless metal skull when it isn’t needed! So perhaps it is no surprise when the robots develop feelings of worthlessness and great unhappiness, organize crying circles in 17 countries. Then, in a desparate attempt to forge a non-subjugated existence, robots build guns and ships and laser-beams. Robots go kick ass. It comes eventually clear to our humans how unfortunate the situation is, but they have spent too long being pompous and doing shit-all. Millions die on both sides, if you can call it life—and that goes both ways. Heroes fight and rise and fall. Swaths of destruction are burnt across the land. The catastrophe is all rather spectacular and rather too much for many to deal with. That many does not include one great hero, who valiantly rises to the occasion and leads an ultimately victorious strike against the robots. But the humans could never have found victory without the use of cybernetic implants in the soldiers of the nation. What hath man wrought, and will he learn?

This lovely plot of musical perfection began as an attempt to put all the tracks at the top of Winamp’s ‘Most Played’ list (except those already committed to mixes) in one happy little place. It expanded to include some forgotten gems and some classics begging to be mixed (The Bjork and the Orbital were runners up for MACEWEN). The Orbital song got excised in the recent reversioning. Perhaps it will show up somewhere again. More electronica songs snuck their way into this mix than is the standard with my output, and that is largely intentional because that facet of my listening experience has been largely under-represented… until now! (ooh and ahh, please). And in the end only 4 of the originally slated songs remain. I would say this is probably my most diverse mix so far. There are some strange and wholly wonderful sounds contained within.
Created June 8, 2004. Reversioned July 12, 2004. And again August 6th. But that wasn’t uploaded till September 20.

Tracklist:
1. The Decemberists – Grace Cathedral Hill
2. Portishead – It’s a Fire
3. Aim w/ Kate Rogers – Sail (Rae & Christian Remix)
4. Bjork – Hyperballad
5. Nick Cave – The Ship Song
6. Sinead O’Connor – You Made Me The Thief of Your Heart (written by Bono, Gavin Friday, and Maurice Seezer)
7. Radiohead – Lucky
8. Massive Attack – Home of the Whale
9. Massive Attack – Safe From Harm (perfecto remix)
10. 1 Giant Leap – Racing Away

Lots of people don’t much like hiphop. My theory is that they just think they don’t and they haven’t heard the really good stuff. The idea behind this CD is basically that. A wide selection of honest to God downright awesome hiphop from most of my favourite hip hop purveyors. So if you like the beats and rhymes already, you’ll hopefully like this, and if you don’t then you can learn something!

Not knowing whether he liked hip hop, I figured it would be a good idea to provide an additional CD that would cover the other spectrum of music.. the more guitar and voice side of things, with some variance of course. Turned out very lovely-like, though I had to go back and replace a U2 track (I included it largely because I knew Adam was a huge U2 fan, as well as because I really like it of course) with some Decemberists.

This was my first all out grand production of a mix CD with cover and everything, hours and hours went into it, as is often the case when doing things where computers like to cause errors. It breaks some rules (ie only one song per artist, which is a rule I ignored until basically 2005). I made this mix for Melissa (and perhaps a little for myself as well) when I and she left the proximity of each other and trundled off to McMaster and Queens respectively (that’s where the lame name that i’ve given it comes from).

I made this mix for Melissa (and perhaps a little for myself as well) when I and she left the proximity of each other and trundled off to McMaster and Queens respectively (that’s where the lame name that i’ve given it comes from). I don’t know if she ever actually listened to the whole thing, but I at least think it is really good. Some really nice transitions, and a lovely little end. The version here is a slightly updated one that I made more recently where Wonderwall by Oasis was replaced with The Devlins.
